  • New Maui County Tax Rates

    New Property tax rates on all real property land and improvements begin July 2008 through June 2009. 

    Tax Rates are per $1000 net assessed value on land, building (improvements) and by property classification.  Homeowner occupied properties that qualify and the owner has applied for the exemption will have $300,000. taken off net assessed value and be charged at the Homeowner Rate.

    Taxes are paid in two portions.  The first being due August 20th for the tax period July 1st - December 31st and the second being due February 20th for the tax period January 1st - June 30th.

    If you qualify for a reduced tax rate that is called a Circut Breaker Credit and the Maui County Explanation is listed below:

    "What is a Circuit Breaker credit?
    A. Circuit Breaker is a credit to real property taxes for taxpayers who are classified as homeowner who filed and was granted a home exemption claim under section 3.48.450. Upon proper application, a homeowner shall be entitled to a credit in the amount that the real property tax assessed on the homeowner property tax exceeds two per cent of household income. The credit shall be applied in equal pro rata amounts against each tax payment due for the tax year following the year in which an application for credit is submitted and granted"

    NEW 2008/2009 TAX RATES KEPT AT 2007/ 2008 LEVELS LISTED BELOW:

    • Homeowner: $2 per $1,000 of assessed value.

    • Improved residential: $4.85.

    • Apartment: $4.55.

    • Commercial: $6.25.

    • Industrial: $6.50.

    • Agricultural: $4.50.
